Justin Taylor Tipton
Following the Slopestyle discipline bursting, spinning and flipping into the public's imagination at the Sochi 2014 Olympics, more focus has switched to the UK dry slope and freestyle scene. At the age of 14, UK Park and Pipe Academy athlete Justin (or JTT) has been winning freestyle competitions consistently over the last year...and he's recently learnt two new double flips, so remember the name!
1) How and where did you get into snowsports?
At Swadlincote Ski Centre, my brother had a birthday party and I just wanted to have a go on the slopes.
2) What do you love about skiing and snowboarding?
I love the way skiing makes me feel, love the feel of fresh snow, the sound my skis make when I am riding, when you are skiing it's a good way to express yourself. I love hitting kickers and getting plenty of air, scary but fun!
3) Where is the best place that skiing or snowboarding has taken you to and why?
Skiing and training in the mountains of Switzerland, I spent the winter training at Laax and competed in the European Opens. I have learned a lot about my self and what I am capable of from this training!
4) What are your plans and goals for the upcoming year?
I want to train hard this year, get my dub tricks down solid, learn more grabs, keep improving my technique all the time. I want to compete away in the mountains this year more than I have and keep working towards my goal of competing for my country. As an Ambassador I can help promote the sport I love and help the next generation of skiers find out how and where to go to follow their dreams.
5) Finally…what advice would you give to someone trying skiing or snowboarding for the first time?
What ever your doing commit, enjoy and have fun. Don't be worried as it is the most amazing fun and relax it's always easier when you relax.
